"Dear Lisa, I have a story to tell you. It involves my little friend, Anna (4-year old). Anna received her copy of "Benny the Blue Heeler Rides the Four Wheeler" some time ago. She insists her dad (Tony) read it each night, and now of course has begun to remember the story. Recently it was book week (or something like that) in Quilpie and the local school asked all business houses to contribute by reading a book. Tony agreed to read Benny and set up a four wheeler with a blue heeler on it. Tony's wife Sarah and Anna turned up in time for the school children and as they sat around to listen Sarah began reading. It wasn't long before Anna also started telling the story. Tony told us that Sarah had to stop a number of times to ask Anna to allow her to finish reading to the children. It was quite humourous at the time and we all had a great laugh. This book is...  funny

This book is about... A blue heeler that rides the farmer's four wheeler and scares all the farm animals because he can't drive very well, because he is a dog.

What I like about this book is... It's got lots of funny pictures with lots of detail. I like everything about this book.

What I don't like about this book is... Nothing.

"Dear Lisa and Michele, I am a grade 1 teacher at Macedon Primary School in Victoria and was given your book 'Benny the Blue Heeler Rides the Four Wheeler' at a Literacy Professional Learning Day. I have been reading a lot about children's connection to text and so did a big introduction about the context of the story and their prior experiences, etc. When I read the story, I was overwhelmed with their response. There were squeals of laughter, particularly the anticipation of what was going to happen on the next page. They loved the part where the dog landed in the trough and the ending, where there was the predication that the dog would do it all over again.

I had told the children that a teacher wrote the book and that was like they, or myself writing a story. As we give each other feedback daily in our grade, it occurred to me that we should contact you both and tell how well the book was received. I have included one of the written responses from the children, below (in her own words!).

'Thack you - it was a fun book. I hope you will no that because, it was very funny. And it was a riming book to. The chierin riely loved it so, you can riedt moor books that rim and are funny. love from Holly Kades'
